Excerpts from what the bones remember is haunting

Not all graves are in the ground—some are carried in the bones.

— Sadia Hakim

I have outgrown my wounds, but my bones still hum their names in the silence.

— Sadia Hakim

I once thought memories lived in the heart, but it was my bones that bore the weight—carving every war, every wound into the marrow, never letting me forget.

— Sadia Hakim

The mind may rewrite history, but the bones remain—unshaken, unyielding, unwilling to forget.

— Sadia Hakim

Scars may fade, but the bones remember every war waged beneath the skin.

— Sadia Hakim

I buried the past, but my bones kept the echoes.

— Sadia Hakim

Some battles end, but their weight lingers in the marrow.

— Sadia Hakim

You can silence a heart, but never the bones—they carry every name, every wound, every unfinished goodbye.

— Sadia Hakim

When even memory turns to dust, the bones will still bear witness.

— Sadia Hakim

The past may be forgotten, but the bones do not grant absolution.

— Sadia Hakim

The body surrenders, the heart forgives, but the bones never let go.

— Sadia Hakim

Sadia Hakim // Excerpts from What the bones remember is haunting // Sciopoetica

A Seyfert asked, “What do they remember?” after I posted this particular quote on my Instagram (post link). Below is the answer. Read it whole to make it make sense.

This is a science-infused poem with a religious context as well. I am talking about trauma, stress, depression, and mental health struggles in this piece.

While trauma does not directly mutate DNA, it can act epigenetically by altering brain chemistry, which in turn influences gene expression. Chemical markers can be added or removed, affecting how genes are turned on or off.

These changes can be long-lasting and even heritable, showing how deeply trauma can shape both mind and body. It runs in generations. It’s not poetic; it’s horrific.

And scientifically speaking, bones are the last to decay, holding onto a DNA impression, like a biological record of everything.

In ISLAM, it’s believed that humans will be recreated from a single bone, which never fully decomposes. So, what the bones remember is haunting 🙁
